What is medical revalidation?

Medical revalidation is the process where doctors will be required to demonstrate their continued fitness to practise. It is also the process for specialist doctors to demonstrate that they meet the standards that apply to their particular medical specialty

Revalidation will support continuous quality improvement in standards and practice for both doctors and patients alike.

What are the challenges faced with implementing a revalidation programme?

Five key revalidation challenges have been identified:

1. 'The Logistical Challenge of Revalidation' - making sure that the programme can manage the 150,000+ doctors who are actively practising in the UK.

2. 'The Methodological Challenge of Revalidation' - to design and implement fair systems through which standards are assessed.

3. 'The Connecting Challenge of Revalidation' - to make relevant links across multiple systems.

4. 'The Information Challenge of Revalidation' - to make data available for objective assessment

5. 'The Cultural Challenge' - to provide an environment where doctors are supported and where other stakeholders (health professionals, patients and managers) remain involved.

How do Premier provide value to medical revalidation?

Premier IT has the in-house skills, experience, products and services to enable our health sector clients (PCTs, Royal Medical Colleges, Employers etc), to deliver their medical revalidation programmes.

Whether the requirement is for a revalidation pilot study or the rollout of web based revalidation tools to deliver the entire programme, we have the people and technology in place to deliver our clients revalidation programmes.

The web based revalidation tools that we have designed and developed complement existing systems and working practices as well as enable our clients to overcome the five key challenges faced in delivering a revalidation programme.
